Gatherings for Adults

We offer several different kinds of gatherings to support adults in learning real spiritual practices for navigating the complexities of life as we ground ourselves in the ancient Jewish tradition and the rhythms of the natural world.

Women's Rosh Hodesh/New Moon Gathering:

Women have traditionally gathered to welcome the new moon/new Hebrew month together for the holiday that falls at this time. The holiday, called Rosh Hodesh (literally "head of the month") will be a time for opening our hearts through song, reflection, and community. Join us from 6:30-9 for a warm, joyous, heart-connecting, soulful experience. We look forward to celebrating the new moon with you starting on Nov. 30/Rosh Hodesh Kislev!

Each month's gathering will include Hebrew chanting, music making, sharing, holding space, and attuning ourselves to the unique qualities of the new Hebrew month.

Often we are excited to bring to our sessions a wonderful (female) guest teacher to share with us as well. Check the website for details!

Spiritual Practices for Daily Living

At Zmanim we strive to give you real tools- life practices- grounded in the ancient Jewish tradition, for enriching our lives, supporting us as individuals and as a community, and connecting to that which is beyond all words. Check out our Sacred Hebrew Chanting classes and our other classes in concrete spiritual practices.

Sacred Hebrew Chanting:

Are you looking for an experiential spiritual practice to open your heart, uplift you, and provide grounding and perspective when "the going gets tough?" Look no further!

Have you experienced the power of chanting in a yoga class, or other setting? Have you ever found that among the many, many, many words in our liturgy and sacred texts, a couple of them jump out and speak to you with the power and depth of their meaning? By focusing our attention on just a few words, and chanting them over and over again, new depth, understanding and heart connection can flourish and grow.

Now, right here in Sebastopol, you can enhance your week and your day by chanting in the powerful, ancient language of Hebrew.

We gather once a week, on Wednesdays, from 9-10 am.

No background or experience necessary, just a willingness to open your heart and your voice.

Join Rabbi Daria and experience the power of this modality. Come dressed to be outdoors (layers!) if it's not too inclement. Young children are welcome to join us, and the sacred energy we can create together.

RSVP to with questions and for the address. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Kabbalah & Jewish Spirituality:

* Did you miss this session? Rabbi Josh will possibly offer it again. Email him at if you are interested!

The Jewish mystical tradition offers deep teachings on the nature of existence, as well as practical pointers towards continual experience of the Divine in daily life.

This class will draw on the teachings of two of the greatest of Jewish mystics--the Baal Shem Tov, and the Maggid of Mezeritch--as we look at traditional texts while also exploring contemplative practices. We will also consider parallels between these Kabbalistic ideas and those of other traditions such as Buddhism.

These are the texts that Rabbi Josh most loves to teach, and are those that he has found to be most profoundly transformative in his own life.

If you've ever wondered, "is there any real spiritual depth in the Jewish tradition?" this class is for you.

When? 4 Tuesday evenings - 7:30 to 9:00 pm - December 6, 13, 20, Jan 3

Where? A private home in Sebastopol.
